Did you know that George Lucas found “Tatooine” right here in Southern Tunisia? Walking through these locations feels like stepping onto a movie set—mostly because, in many cases, you actually are.
- Matmata (Luke Skywalker’s Home): Visit the Hotel Sidi Driss, a traditional Berber troglodyte (underground) dwelling. You can sit in the very dining room where Luke had blue milk with Aunt Beru.
- Mos Espa (Ong Jemel): Located near Tozeur, this is the most intact set in the country. Wander through the pod-racing streets and see the moisture vaporators still standing against the desert wind.
- Ksar Hadada: Explore the unique “Ghorfas” (stacked grain stores) that served as the slave quarters in The Phantom Menace. Their curved, otherworldly architecture is a photographer’s dream.
